Democrats often ask why Republicans “question their patriotism”. To the extent that they actually do (which is far more rare than the Dems would have us believe), it’s because of things like this: The photo, from the Denver Post’s blog , is some of the “thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage.” Perhaps if, in addition to simply using the flag as a prop for their convention, they’d learn and understand enough about it to know that there are...

This story may be some comfort for those of us with loved ones in Iraq: An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period. In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial...

This (via Drudge) just goes to show you how far some folks will go to accomodate their political views. Now, I'm not overly exercised by this. Oprah is a talking head, not a journalist, so there's no reason she needs to worry about providing balanced coverage, or anything like that. But it's fascinating that Oprah apparently does not want to have Sarah Palin on despite the fact that 40 million Americans tuned in to watch Palin's acceptance speech at the RNC. That is, BTW, about the same number that...

This story represents a pretty significant vindication for those who have asserted that science could advance the cause of pursuing genetic cures to common ailments without resorting to the destruction of human embryos: Scientists have transformed one type of fully developed adult cell directly into another inside a living animal, a startling advance that could lead to cures for a plethora of illnesses and sidestep the political and ethical quagmires that have plagued embryonic stem cell research...

Here's the video that Obama doesn't want you to see: In fact, he wants so badly for you not to see it that he's trying to force the DoJ to silence the group responsible. Think about that for a second...if Republicans attempted to silence a group criticizing one of their candidates by siccing a government agency on them, the left would call them fascists and thugs. But when the shoe is on the other foot? Not a peep. This is an utterly disgusting attack on the very essence of free speech our founding...

The By Any Means Necessary strategy... don't let the people vote : "The key to defeating the initiative is to keep it off the ballot in the first place. That's the only way we're going to win," said Donna Stern, Midwest director for the Detroit-based By Any Means Necessary. There's something intensely wrong about groups that do not trust voters to decide issues, and it's no surprise that these groups are almost uniformly on the political left. Unlike most of her peers, Stern openly acknowledges that...

Never mind that this guy wasn't elected, but is only governor because his predecessor had to resign in shame, nevermind that neither Paterson nor Spitzer ran on a promise to legalize gay marriage, and most of all, never mind asking the citizens of New York what they want: David Paterson has unilaterally declared New York a gay-marriage-friendly state: ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gay rights advocates had reason to celebrate on both coasts Thursday, with New York set to recognize same-sex marriages performed...

Wow. This post, on successful government reform in New Zealand, is remarkable and inspiring. If nothing else, it gives one hope that perhaps there will be at least some last bastion of liberty in the world if the libs have their way here in the U.S. Certainly, I'll have to put NZ on my list of places to visit soon.

A powerful indictment of CO2 restrictions as a means to combat "climate change": It is not possible to stop climate change, a natural phenomenon that has affected humanity through the ages. Geological, archaeological, oral and written histories all attest to the dramatic challenges posed to past societies from unanticipated changes in temperature, precipitation, winds and other climatic variables. We therefore need to equip nations to become resilient to the full range of these natural phenomena...
