Oprah Chooses Obama Over Ratings

This (via Drudge) just goes to show you how far some folks will go to accomodate their political views. Now, I'm not overly exercised by this. Oprah is a talking head, not a journalist, so there's no reason she needs to worry about providing balanced coverage, or anything like that. But it's fascinating that Oprah apparently does not want to have Sarah Palin on despite the fact that 40 million Americans tuned in to watch Palin's acceptance speech at the RNC. That is, BTW, about the same number that tuned in for Obama's speech the week before, which was arguably more historic given that the country has already had a female VP candidate. And it was nearly double the number that tuned in for Joe Biden's speech.

Oprah, as a private individual in a free market, has the right to book whoever she chooses. But I think it's a fascinating window into the mind of one American liberal that she would sooner give up what would likely be a ratings bonanza than risk the possibility of hurting her chosen candidate. I guess we should at least congratulate her for being willing to put her money where her mouth is.
